Loom Knit Checkerboard

The checker’s pattern originated from those who watched the finishing line and checked the cars when they had finished the race. In the 1930’s, it was worn by the Scottish. In the 1970’s, Steven Van Doren noticed skaters were taking markers to the rubber midsoles of  their shoes and coloring in checkers. He further developed this idea and moved it to the upper canvas part of the shoe. This pattern hit the music scene throughout the 70’s becoming a huge trend through the birth of high end punk fashion. The checkerboard pattern fell off in the 90’s; since we have seen it resurge in fashion in 2016 by a London based fashion designer. Today, we see it pop up in fashion on Instagram.
