Types of looms

How do you Loom?

Everyone has their favorite brand or type of loom knitting. There are several different looms and loom knitting is definitely growing.

Types of Looms:

rake-(aka long) single row of pegs generally used to create flat panels (2 rows put together = knitting board)

Rake aka Knitting Board

circular/round-create tubular shaped , you can flat knit too

Circular

afghan-S-loom or serenity loom infinity figure of eight structure large panel projects

sock- includes adjustable gauge normally

Sock Looms

double knit- knitting across both rails when using a long loom

Since we create a lot of yoga and resort wear the majority of the time we flat knit (rake) and a lot of panels. Our "go-to" are the KB Looms straight and round ones as you can flat knit in both but the gauge sizes they have are great when using finer fibers as we year-round. Most assume you would only use small gauge looms however the larger looms are great with finer yarns for certain stitches. Just SWATCH FIRST!

Once you change a yarn, loom, or how you are knitting it you will change what the stitch looks like.

Always imagine, explore, and have fun creating!
